Sophie Cooch (she/her) is a certified Intimacy Coordinator for Screen and an Intimacy Director for stage based in the UK. As an Intimacy Coordinator, Sophie has worked on productions for Netflix, Disney+, Paramount, Apple TV, Lionsgate, Channel 4, BBC, and ITV.
Sophie is certified with Intimacy Directors & Coordinators (IDC) in New York, where she had the privilege of training under pioneering Intimacy Coordinators Alicia Rodis (IC for HBO studios, Pretty Little Liars, Watchmen, And Just Like That ), Claire Warden (First Intimacy Director on Broadway, Slave Play, Gossip Girl, West Side Story) and Marcus Watson (American Horror Story, Succession, Time Traveler's Wife).
Sophie brings a unique blend of skills as an Intimacy Coordinator. With over a decade of experience in both screen and stage, Sophie started her career as a professional actor, theatre maker, and movement performer. Her diverse movement background, including training in dance and physical theatre, provides a solid foundation for her work choreographing intimate scenes. With experience on both sides of the creative process and using a trauma-informed approach, Sophie collaborates respectfully with cast and crew alike and is committed to creating a safe and empowering environment for everyone involved.
With a focus on communication and efficiency, Sophie is adept as a head of department, managing the logistics and coordination of intimate scenes. She supports Producers and liaises with multiple departments to ensure these scenes are delivered safely and ethically, prioritising actor advocacy while achieving the Director’s and Showrunner’s creative vision.
Sophie has worked as an Intimacy Practitioner in Film, TV, Theatre, Musicals, Commercials, Music Videos, Performance Art, and Youth Productions. Her work as an Intimacy Practitioner is project-centred, acknowledging that every project and person is different and tailoring her approach to suit each production’s specific needs.
